SPOTLIGHT PROJECT

Wastewater lift station for GTC Training Center in Forsyth, Georgia
Located 60 miles south of Atlanta, Forsyth is a growing city in Monroe County and part of the Macon metropolitan area. Forsyth is known for its Southern charm, outdoor recreation, and economic development. It is a key location for infrastructure as it is located strategically along I-75.
Overview
The Georgia Transmission Corporation (GTC) operates an Electric Cooperative Training Center in Forsyth, which provides industry-leading training for electric utility professionals across the state. The facility was previously served by an outdated septic system, which no longer met the demands.
With the construction of a new force min, GTC needed a custom-engineered lift station to connect their facility to the regional wastewater system. This is the only pump station owned and operated by GTC, which meant reliability and ease of maintenance were essential in the design of the pumping system.
Key system features include:
Romtec Utilities designed and supplied a complete, low-flow, medium-head wastewaterlift station with robust, weather-resistant features for long-term outdoor operation.
Key components:
- Two Ebara, 3-horsepower submersible pumps for redundancy and performance.
- Alternator relay control panel for alternating pump cycles.
- Mechanical float switches for wastewater level sensing.
- NEMA 4 painted steel enclosure for weatherproof electrical protection.
Weather Challenge: Hurricane flooding
Midway through installation, Hurricane Irma, a Category 5 storm, brough significant rainfall and flooding to the area. The underground components had already been placed, so emergency protective barriers were installed to keep the wet well from flooding before system commissioning.
Thanks to proactive measures and system reliance, a Romtec Utilities startup technician was able to commission the system after the storm without long-term delays.

Why GTC chose Romtec Utilities
Romtec Utilities was chosen for this project because of our ability to deliver a fully integrated lift station package, customized for Forsyth's site conditions and GTC's operational needs.
We worked directly with the site engineer, Southland Services, and Pyles Plumbing & Utility Contractors to ensure the system met all design and regulatory standards.
