Stormwater Pump Station in Wichita, Kansas
The development of a new Sam's Club in Wichita, Kansas, required a cutting-edge solution for stormwater management. To meet site design requirements, a detention pond was included to collect runoff, and Romtec Utilities was selected to provide a pre-engineered stormwater pump station. This project showcases one of the first examples of Romtec's "Berm" style pump stations, seamlessly integrated into the pond's edge for both functionality and aesthetics.
Overview
Romtec Utilities worked closely with Kimley-Horn during the design phase to ensure the system met all hydraulic and operational requirements. After private bidding, Mies Construction, Inc., was awarded the contract, with Sam's Club funding the project.
The Sam's Club Wichita detention pond pump station successfully manages stormwater runoff for a new retail development.
Key system features
- Wet well: precast concrete, 6-foot inside diameter, 12.66 feet deep, with pedestrian-rated hatch.
- Duplex Ebara submersible pumps, 5hp each.
- NEMA 4X enclosure, 480V/3-phase duplex alternator control.
- NOLTA MS1 float switches as primary level control.
- Single-point probe for detention pond level monitoring as secondary level control.
- 4-inch discharge piping with swing check valves and ductile iron fittings.
